Catalog changelog

Every dated change to the CounselAtlas catalog: records added, status changes, statement updates, and new surfaces.

  1. Record merged — Merged the duplicate LEAP record. LEAP was listed twice under the same vendor and website, which split its evidence across two pages. The catalog now carries one LEAP record holding both the regional hosting and no-training statements and the SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 certification, and the Smokeball comparison points at the surviving record.

  2. Statement update — Records now carry their own observation date instead of sharing one catalog-wide constant. The original twenty records keep their 2026-09-15 date and the records added since carry 2026-09-21, so the ninety-day re-check cadence staggers by record rather than expiring the whole catalog on one day.

  3. Record added — Expanded practice management to fourteen records, adding Clio Manage, MyCase, Smokeball, CasePeer, and LEAP alongside the embedded AI assistants, and expanded general-purpose assistants to twelve, adding Notion AI, Glean, Otter.ai, Zoom AI Companion, and Amazon Q Business. Grouped both categories into subcategories. Published six comparison pages so every live record still appears in at least one comparison.

  4. Record added — Expanded document management and e-discovery from seven to sixteen records, adding Reveal, Onna, Exterro, Nuix, GoldFynch, Nextpoint, CloudNine, Lexbe, and CaseFleet. Grouped the category into e-discovery review platforms, collection and processing, case and document management, and document review. Updated the Relativity record to note that RelativityOne is now Relativity aiR. Published seven comparison pages so every live record still appears in at least one comparison.

  5. Record added — Expanded intake and client communication from seven to seventeen records, adding Law Ruler, Intaker, Intake123, Answering Legal, LEX Reception, PATLive, CallRail, Birdeye, Podium, and Abby Connect. Grouped the category into intake and CRM, answering and reception, client communication and reputation, and case management. Published seven comparison pages so every live record still appears in at least one comparison.

  6. Record added — Expanded legal research from six to thirteen records, adding Descrybe, Trellis, CourtListener, Jus Mundi, Fastcase, Docket Alarm, and PACER, and moved TermScout into drafting and review where its contract-benchmarking work belongs. 7. Record added — Expanded firm operations and billing from four to fourteen records, adding LawPay, TrustBooks, Bill4Time, TimeSolv, Tabs3, SurePoint, CARET Legal, Aderant, Rocket Matter Billing, and Clio Payments. September 21, 2026
  8. Status change — Reworked the status model. Status now records lifecycle only, Active or Retired. How much a vendor publishes is recorded separately as a data-statement coverage label: Published, Partial, or Not found. Coverage is a description of the vendor’s material, never a judgement about the product, and it no longer affects whether a product is listed or where it appears.
    September 21, 2026
  9. Surface added — Tool records now state how many days have passed since the last observation and flag themselves as awaiting re-check once they pass the ninety-day cadence, so the published refresh promise is visible on the page rather than left to the reader.
    September 21, 2026
  10. Surface added — Published two more comparison pages, Centerbase against CosmoLex and Casepoint against Relativity aiR, so every live record now appears in at least one comparison.
    September 21, 2026
  11. Surface added — Expanded the guide set from six to twelve, adding guides on what a free trial actually tests, who owns the output, reading a vendor security page, choosing between one tool and a suite, when not to buy, and migrating off a product. Each guide carries the same dated, sourced evidence rule as the records.
    September 20, 2026
  12. Surface added — Added a side-by-side editorial assessment table to every comparison page and an assessment matrix to task and practice-area hubs with three to twelve tools, so the confidentiality read, adoption cost, and closest alternative can be compared across products rather than read one record at a time.
    September 20, 2026
  13. Content deepened — Added four editorial assessment dimensions to all sixty-six live records: a plain-language read of the vendor's confidentiality and training wording, a set of trial evaluation steps, an adoption and switching-cost note, and the closest alternative with the fact that separates it.
